Healthy Desserts for Everyone

Who thought sweets could be healthy? Yes, aside from raw fruits there are also healthy desserts than can be best served after dinner. Even those who avoid sugar can enjoy gourmet sweet in moderation. But what are the things to consider when preparing a healthy dessert?

First, go for natural ingredients that are best found through organic products. Trans fat and hydrogenated oil in desserts should be avoided, too. Take note that fructose corn syrup is not good for the body because it can lead to too much fat absorption. This is actually worse compared to consuming the same amount of plain sugar. Also, you must stay away from artificial coloring and flavoring. It really pays to read the label.

DIY desserts are usually healthier than ready-made ones. Use low fat milk products and sweeteners. Calories count so you better go for light and healthy recipe. Walnuts is a good example of healthy grain because it is reach is omega 3.

Here’s another trivia: chocolate can be a healthy dessert, too. Most dark chocolates are made up of 70% cocoa which contain great amount of antioxidant. However, it is not advisable to mix milk and chocolate since research shows that milk can lower the body’s capability to absorb more antioxidants.

    oh this reminded me of hubby’s Godiva dark chocolate for me last time he came home for a vacation. healthy and yummy is the best treat! 🙂
